ETF Market Heat Map Monday 8/5 vs. Tuesday 8/6

After the close on Monday, futures markets started posting gains, which indicates that the massive selloff was, a bit, overdone. Lots of ink has been spilled debating what caused the heard-like selling, most notably, the Japanese Yen carry trade unwind… I won’t get into this but here is a half decent explanation:

Thats enough about that… Here are some questions that have crossed my mind.

Have we seen the bottom for stocks? Global equity markets are experiencing a bit of a reprieve today, after yesterday’s violent plunges. Japan rallied +10% — the most since October 2008.

Have we seen the top in bonds? Over the past two weeks, Treasurys rallied sharply like a US recession was the highest probability outcome. According to the SahmRule, it is.

The current Fear and Greed Index has recovered slightly, bottom at 16, now at 24.
