Data reflects end-of-day ETF market data for Monday, August 5th, 2024
How are we feeling about Yesterday’s selloff??

How the market started the day Vs. how it ended… No turnaround

Unless you own Gold or Oil.

Daily Market Data:

Yesterday’s market was a reflection of the amount of uncertainty there is in the world. Elections, Escalations in the Middle East, Inflation/ deflation, recession? Thats a few that come to mind. Under the curtains, ISM, also known as the purchasing manager’s index, relieves some stress. Data came back better than expected for July.

Is there a fundamental issue in the market? Yesterday the VIX, a measure of volatility in the S&P spiked to its third-highest reading ever at 65.65, only a few days ago it was at 13😲.

Japan's stock market, the Nikkei 225, just had its biggest two-day drop in history!

All this… Now What? The S&P is still up over 12% YTD, and the NASDAQ is up over 13% YTD. If averages tell us anything, the market returns 8% a year, and we are up quite a bit more than that, maybe some mean reversion is normal?? Who knows but let us not forget the age-old wisdom It’s time in the market, not timing the market.
