Daily Market Brief:

The S&P 500 Index SPY on Monday closed unchanged, the Dow Jones Industrials Index DIA closed down -0.36%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index QQQ closed up +0.16%.

US stocks on Monday ended narrowly mixed. Stocks saw support from a -3.6 bp decline in the 10-year T-note yield and from some positive corporate news.

West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures, closely followed by the United States Oil Fund USO, surged 3.6% to close at $79.60 per barrel on Monday amid rising tensions in the Middle East. On an unrelated note, Lockheed Martin LMT shares closed at an all time high at $556.91/share.

Another significant development was Gold crossing the $2500/oz.

A slowing labor market may be getting all the attention lately, but U.S. inflation will be back in the headlines this week. Data on Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to show that price growth remained relatively tame in July, keeping alive expectations that the Federal Reserve may cut interest rates in September.
