✅ July US CPI annual inflation rises 2.9%, below expectations for 3.0%.

✅ Core CPI inflation increased 3.2% Y/Y, matching forecasts for a gain of 3.2%.

Excluding shelter, the headline and core inflation rates were only 1.8% and 1.7% y/y in July.

The aftermath of the crazy volatility we have seen seems to be subsiding meaningfully. A Rapid VIX retreat is unfolding. At 16.2, today’s close marked “the index's fastest retreat from closing above 35 to below 17.6 (long-term median reading). Historically, it has taken 170 sessions to get there.”

The market ended strong after a solid CPI and PPI report as well as the VIX dropping back into a normal range.
